Augusta County Library will be hosting a Volunteer Fair to highlight community organizations that are looking for volunteers to support their mission.  This inclusive event aims to connect local volunteer groups with community members who are eager to make a difference. Whether your organization is large or small, well-established or just getting started, this is your opportunity to showcase your needs and find the support you require.

Event Highlights:

  • Networking Opportunities: Meet and connect with a diverse array of community members who are passionate about volunteering.
  • Tabeling: Set up a table to display your organization’s mission, current projects, and volunteer opportunities. Also a great opportunity to recruit for board positions!
  • Resource Sharing:  Introduce yourself to other organizations who may be doing similar work to pool resources and collaborate.  Exchange ideas, resources, and best practices with other volunteer organizations.

Mission: Dogs Deserve Better Blue Ridge saves hundreds of lives every year by taking dogs off chains and pulling at-risk dogs from shelters. Based in Central Virginia, we provide assistance in under-resourced communities by offering spay and neuter services, fencing, insulated dog houses, vet care, dog food, and supplies. Our adoption and foster programs unite animals with their forever homes. We also advocate for humane legislation and educate community members on animal welfare.

  • Bereavement: Volunteers provide additional support to the Bereavement program, which can include providing assistance with administrative tasks, and or assistance with a Bereavement Support Group.

Bat Conservation & Rescue of Virginia

Mission: Bat Conservation &  Rescue of Virginia strives to conserve native bat species in Virginia and beyond by engaging, empowering, and educating people of all ages and abilities to ensure the future of Virginia’s bats and preserve their habitats.

Volunteer roles available:

  • Bat Caretaker (must be 18 yo and have rabies vaccination): Provide direct care for bats in rehabilitation and permanent resident education ambassadors
  • Bat Walk leaders: Guide walks in public green spaces during “bat season” to introduce people to nature at night. Responsibilities include selecting walk locations, securing permissions, publicizing opportunities, checking out and returning equipment in good order, tracking attendance
  • Data analysis project lead: Compile call data collected during walks and static detector deployments. Analyze data for accuracy and compile call libraries. Ensure quality data is collected and received from walk leaders
  • Social Media Assistant: Produce content for public outreach regarding animals in care, accomplishments, events, etc.
