Memory Lab

Have physical photographs you would like to digitize? Have family stories that you want to record? Know of any local legends that should be recorded for posterity? Want to be part of sharing your community’s history?

Beginning Monday, April 8, 2024, Augusta County Library will make it’s Memory Lab available to the public at the Stuarts Draft Library Station. This service is meant to provide community members with access to technology to preserve family and community memories. You can request a reservation through the Book A Librarian Form here. By submitting your request for a Memory Lab reservation, you are agreeing to the following guidelines:

Augusta County Library Memory Lab Usage Guidelines

The purpose of these guidelines is to provide direction for the public use of the Memory Lab at the Stuarts Draft Library Station. These guidelines are in place to ensure the safety of users and the maintenance of the equipment.

Memory Lab Equipment Available:

  1. Epson FastFoto FF-680W
  2. Epson Perfection V 39 II Color Photo and Document Flatbed Scanner
  3. Sony ICD-UX570 Digital Voice Recorder

Who can use the Memory Lab?

  1. The Memory Lab is available to all library patrons
  2. Users must complete a basic training session before their first use of the machine.
  3. Users 16 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Reservations

  1. Users may reserve the Memory Lab for up to two hours per day
  2. Reservations can be made up to two weeks in advance.
  3. Reservations must be requested through the Book A Librarian: Appointment Request Form.
  4. If a user fails to arrive within 15 minutes of their reservation, the Memory Lab may be released for use by others.
  5. If a user requires staff assistance, they must indicate this during the reservation process.

Usage & Materials

  1. Users are responsible for providing their own jump drive or other storage material for saving the digitized files.
  2. The library is not responsible for projects that do not come out as expected.
  3. Users should clean the surrounding work area after use.
  4. Users have the option of allowing the library to save a copy of their files to be accessed by the public by completing and signing the appropriate Release Form.

Safety

  1. Users must follow all safety guidelines provided during the training session.
  2. The Memory Lab equipment should not be left unattended while in operation.
  3. Users should immediately report any issues or malfunctions to library staff.

Liability

  1. The library is not responsible for any injuries or damages incurred while using the Memory Lab Equipment.
  2. Users who damage the machine due to negligence or misses may be held responsible for repair or replacement costs.

Violation of Guidelines

  1. Library staff have the right to deny the use of the Cricut machine to any individual who violates these guidelines.
  2. Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in the suspension of Cricut privileges.
